BMed,PhD (Diabetic Retinopathy)
Dr Plant is an eye surgeon with subspecialties in the medical and surgical management of retinal diseases, cataract surgery and complex cataract surgery. He graduated from the University of Newcastle with a Bachelor of Medicine with distinction and completed a PhD from the University of Sydney on diabetic retinopathy.
Dr Plant completed his training in the prestigious Sydney Eye Hospital network. He then completed a further year as the Senior Ophthalmology Registrar in Royal North Shore Hospital. On completion of his specialist training, he went on to complete fellowships in Medical Retina, Uveitis and Vitreoretinal surgery at Bristol Eye Hospital and the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospitals in the United Kingdom.
During this time, he was a sub investigator for multiple studies researching new treatments of retinal diseases, including those for retinal vein occlusion and age-related macular degeneration.
Dr Plant’s areas of expertise include retinal vascular diseases such as retinal vein occlusion, age related macular degeneration, diabetic macular oedema, polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy, ocular inflammation, vitreomacular traction, epiretinal membrane, macular hole, vitreous hemorrhage, retinal detachment, complex proliferative diabetic retinopathy and complex cataract surgery.
Dr Plant has published in international peer-reviewed journals and has presented in both Australia and overseas. He has been active in the teaching of students both here in Australia and in the UK receiving awards for his innovation.
