"Dental Variation in the Sydney Region: An Odontometric Analysis"

This thesis developed an experimental model to examine integrated patterns of variability, utilising multivariate statistics such as canonical variate analysis and discriminant function analysis. Critical variables with high loading on multifactorial modelling were determined to identify major contributors, with the utility of variation and separation applied to forensic and anthropological contexts.

Doctoral studies were undertaken on a full-time and part-time basis, and from 1998 concurrently with medical studies (5.0 years full-time equivalent). Fieldwork comprised 6 months data collection at University College London and Cambridge University.

This research produced one published paper, one published abstract, and six conference paper presentations, two of which were by invitation. Multiple research prizes and scholarships were awarded throughout candidature.

Lead Consultant Ophthalmologist for direct referrals from Kinghorn Cancer Centre (a joint facility of St Vincent’s Hospital and The Garvan Institute) for all clinical trial patients, to detect eye pathology for inclusion to and exclusion from clinical trials, as well as monitoring complications and side effects of trial medications. This involves comprehensive anterior and posterior segment examinations.

Associate Investigator: Current funding from NHMRC, Supported by The George Institute for Global Health: Best Practice Surgical and Refractive (BRIGhT) management strategy for cataract, which combines expedited sequential cataract surgery and provision of necessary refractive correction through updated spectacle lenses within 2 weeks of second eye surgery. Site SWSLHD.

Current funding application for Translational Research Grants Scheme, Supported by Agency for Clinical Innovation (ACI): A Vision for Integrated hospital and community management of chronic eye diseases: Effectiveness and adaptability of Community-Eye-Care (C-EYE-C) - does it promote access, is it cost-effective and does it meet patients’ needs?
